'Wait and See' as the appropriate response to disruption

This week a couple of outlets provided coverage of my forthcoming Management Science paper with Matt Marx and David Hsu.

Put simply, the overwhelming response from the Christensen-led school of disruptive theory is that incumbents are doomed and basically, their only chance to preserve their ‘names’ is to disrupt themselves first. Our research suggests that incumbents can instead wait and see which innovations are truly disruptive and acquire them before they become disruptive to them. We demonstrate that, for 50 years of the speech recognition industry, that is, in fact, what many incumbents have done. The articles provide more details.
